Tangier: a surprisingly nice holiday destination

Now that the autumn has really started in the Netherlands, it is already time to think about the holiday of next year. Transavia has good news for you! We have added six new cities to our already very impressive list of destinations for the coming summer. One of them is the surprisingly beautiful Tangier. From February 19, 2019, Transavia flies to this destination from Rotterdam twice a week. Tickets can be booked from now on.

Tangier is located in the north of Morocco, on the street of Gibraltar, where the Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea embrace each other. The white city, this northern Moroccan destination is also called. And whoever for the first time walks through the Medina, the historic centre with all its narrow streets, immediately understands why. Here you will find old whitewashed houses everywhere. It is a place where you can literally touch history. Walking through the maze of alleyways, it is always nice to dream away for every visitor. Here you will find restaurants, bakeries and souvenir shops.

Gaze at the old market

Morocco is known for its souks and Tangier is no exception. A must-visit is the Grand Socco, a large square where genuine North African markets are regularly organized. Here you will find lots of second-hand items and the smell of North African spices will soon meet you. Taste the taste of Morocco and try the fresh lemons, figs and olives that are offered here. In the meantime, look at how one of the vendors cuts a beautiful wooden statue with a small knife. A few hours on the Grand Socco is an experience that you should not miss.

The Sultan’s Palace

Want to recover? A little further you will find lots of terraces. And after drinking such a delicious cup of Moroccan tea or coffee you are in a few minutes at the Mendoubia gardens. The beautiful fountains here are a popular spot for a nice selfie. Art lovers will get their money’s worth in Tangier. There is the Palace of the Sultan, an imposing building that you can not ignore. Today Moroccan art is exhibited here. Certainly worth a visit is the Forbes Museum, where an impressive collection of soldiers in lead are presented. The Cervantes Theater, which is more than a hundred years old, just a bit further away, is definitely worth a Kodak moment.

Kabash is at the highest point in Tangier. The soul of the city, as the inhabitants call this part of Tangier. Admittedly, you have to climb a bit, but you also get something in return: a beautiful view of the city and the street of Gibraltar. With a clear blue sky without clouds you can even see Spain in the distance.

Making trips

As a coastal town, Tangier also provides entertainment for lovers of the sea. So you can spend a day at the long stretched beach to enjoy the sun. There is always room. Moreover, you can walk a bit here on the well-maintained hiking trails and dikes. And do you have a day left? Do not miss an excursion to Chefchaouen. The old centre of this nearby city is completely submerged in magical blue. Not for nothing is Chefchaouen called ‘The Blue Pearl of Morocco’. A special experience!

Summer schedule live

A few days to Tangier is more than worth the effort. Transavia flies from 2019 to coastal town in northern Morocco. The summer schedule of Transavia starts on 1 April of the following year and lasts until 31 October. You can fly to Tangier from February 19 of the coming year. Tickets are now available from 59 Euros each way.
